How Do You Define Success with Online Dating?

I call it the 10% rule.

If I send out 100 messages and I get 10 back then I am at or near the peak of my online game. With most dating sites having more men than women, and women having very abundant options, 10% is a high rate of return indeed. In fact, because there are so many women using the online personals, 10% is more than enough for you to handle.

So how do you get to the 10% level?

You write a kick-butt profile, that's how. A profile with a good picture, sharp writing style, and which shows that you have standards, is the formula to use. If you showed that you didn't have standards, virtually no women would respond. But if you show that you do, then 10% of the women will be at least potentially compatible with you, and the other 90% will respect you for having standards but just not respond because they would feel they are not your type.

Try an experiment. Write a personal ad and see how many responses you get to the message, "hi, write back if you wanna chat". Keep fine-tuning the ad until you hit 10%, and then you know you're gold.
